TACTICAL ASSAULT "Swim Bait" Revolver Rod
How do you Build the Lightest Swim Bait Rod?
You start with a Reel Seat like non-other on the market!
A full day casting heavy swim baits require an angler with stamina like no other Bass lure presentation. These 3-8 oz. lures will tax any person's level of dedication to win. The enormous size and weight of these baits means it is a lure for HUGE lunker bass thus requires equipment to match. Here is what we had to analyze to find the perfect blank for a Swim Bait Rod.
- Size and Weight of the various Swim Bait Lures?
- Most common direction of Attack from the Bass on these types of lures?
- Type of cast most common with these baits (over hand, side
arm, etc.)?
- Casting distance preferred or needed?
- What does a rod need to have to control a Bass that jumps with this heavy bait in its mouth?
- What rod characteristics are needed to compensate for human errors?
- What is the lightest blank that will handle all the above
conditions?
Questions like these and many more have to be weighed and compromises made in every rod selection we make. This is the only way we can match a particular blank and each rod component to a specific lure technique. These questions are thought through and answered in every "Technique Specific" rod we build. This process is made somewhat easier because we are not only rod builders but tournament competitors as well.
This Swim Bait rod is as light as it gets and still has the power to handle the big lures without working the angler overtime. Every detail has been carefully judged as to how it relates to "enhanced rod performance". We are positive this Swim Bait rod is the best we can build utilizing today's material technology. After you have landed a couple Swim Bait fish on this rod we are sure you will agree there is non better than the TACTICAL ASSAULT™ "Swim Bait" Revolver Rod ®.
Crankbait Rod
The crankbait is my favorite lure. Therefore finding a blank that works best for this presentation was a labor of love. When you have all things matched correctly (rod, line and lure) Crankbaits can and should be fished with little to no hook-set. The perfect cranking stick will set the hook for you much like the Drop Shot technique. Let the fish load the rod then with a slight pull of the rod towards your body and by speeding up the retrieve speed the fish will come to and into the boat. Let the rod do the work. This rod will control the fish and you, the angler, will control the rod.
Moving lures may possibly be the easiest lures to catch fish with. Some anglers make them more difficult than they are by using the wrong equipment or too stiff a rod. Along with the stiff rod they have a rod with too fast of a "Recovery Speed". The material used to build the blank determines recovery speed of a rod. Don't confuse "Rod Action" with recovery speed. They are not the same and in fact, you can have a fast action rod with a slow recovery speed. When fishing moving lures the slow recovery of the rod is key to success. The S-Glass used in our Cranking Rod and Spinnerbait Rod is what slows the recovery speed of this blank. Even the lowest modulus graphite has a faster recovery than glass. This is why graphite will not work as well as glass for moving type lures.
Many companies have tried over the years to produce a graphite cranking rod. They then try to convince the angler that graphite is best for cranking. It is the "Stiffness to Weight Ratio" of graphite that makes this material have a higher recovery speed than glass. This stiffness to weight ratio is also what is known as "modulus". The modulus rating of the lowest modulus graphite is around 33 million modulus. S-Glass is 13 million modulus and the older style E-Glass is 6 million. S-Glass is a form of high modulus glass thus giving it greater sensitivity then the old E-Glass rods of the past. This, along with the higher stiffness to weight ratio of the material, gives the rod more backbone then any other glass rod plus allows the blank manufacturer to build a much lighter glass blank.
If crankbaits are an important part of your bass-fishing arsenal, I guarantee the BT Series of rods will increase your hooking and landing ratio with these moving type lures. The BT letters in the rod model number stands for Brad Tharp. I worked very closely with the composite manufacturer to develop this S-Glass blank. When completed it had to be "RIGHT" before I would put my name on it. Give this one a try and before long you will own 3-4 of them.
Spinnerbait Rod
This rod is very much the same as our Crank Bait rod but has slightly more backbone for better hook-ups with the single hook lure. Again we are using the S-Glass blank for this rod but a higher 6 power gives us the backbone we need. You know this rod is the right one for Spinnerbaits when you start catching and landing fish with little to no hook-set. That's right, when fishing with moving type lures we want the rod to set the hook and this rod does exactly that. When you feel the fish load the rod you will be able to increase reel speed and land the fish. When you remove the Spinnerbait you will find the fish was well hooked thanks to the material characteristics of this S-Glass blank.
The rod is rated for up to 1oz. lures and will handle the 1oz Spinnerbait but you will be reaching the peak lure weight range for this rod. However, Spinnerbaits from 1/4oz to 3/4oz are no problem. The Split Grip is ideal for those two-handed roll casts. The teardrop shaped butt places the second hand in the exact same location cast after cast thus improving casting accuracy. The two piece Sens-a-Max™ Reel Seat exposes more blank than any rod in the industry and adds to the sensitivity this glass rod has. Additionally, every effort has been made to reduce rod weight that also helps make this rod as light and sensitive as many factory graphite rods.
Don't be fooled into believing graphite is better for Spinnerbaits. Facts are that glass has always been the best choice for moving type lures. It will only take 2 Spinnerbait caught fish with this rod and you too will find that S-Glass rules for this lure. The old E-Glass of the past was heavy and tiring to fish with all day long. The lightness of our S-Glass rods is unmatched in the industry. Just pick this one up and you will think it has to be graphite.
